From the first day of attending SmartyPants records are completed and information gathered from parents about their child. This information is strictly confidential. The information is used as a basis for providing what each baby/child can do, likes and dislikes. Each child has their own 'Record of Achievement' file with pieces of their own work, photographs, written observations and any certificates awarded.
The files ensure that all areas of development are being met according to the ability of each child.
Children are observed playing alone and within groups regularly to ensure a good balance of activities and social skills are developing.
Children aged 0-3 years will be observed and assessed using the Early Years Foundation Stage. Key workers plan and encourage their children to join in with fun and games and explore lots of new experiences linked to the Framework.
When the children reach 3 years of age they start to follow our curriculum which is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage and organised into the six areas of learning. (See Section on Curriculum in this Booklet).
The Early Years Foundation Stage sets out 'stepping stones'. These progress towards the Early Leaming Goals, through staff planning suitable activities for each area.
A Record of Achievement file contains pieces of work, assessments and observations and photographic evidence of ongoing activities. With all this information gathered, these set the next steps, and recognise the strengths and weaknesses of each child. The Record of Achievement file is passed onto parents when their child leaves nursery.
